BlackVue DR970X 4K UHD front and Full HD rear recording

4K UHD Front and Full HD Rear Recording

The BlackVue DR970X front camera used an 8-megapixel CMOS image sensor to record 4K UHD video at 3840 × 2160 resolution. The secondary rear camera recorded Full HD video at 1920 × 1080 resolution.

This combination provided high-resolution forward evidence along with continuous rear coverage for documenting traffic incidents, road conditions and surrounding vehicles.

BlackVue’s video processing and night-recording capabilities were designed to preserve useful detail across daytime, nighttime and changing-light conditions.

Wi-Fi, GPS and Optional LTE

  • Wi-Fi: Allowed compatible smartphones to connect directly to the DR970X through the BlackVue app for setup, Live View, file review and video downloads. Wi-Fi could also connect the camera to BlackVue Cloud through a compatible internet hotspot.
  • GPS: Recorded vehicle location and speed information for supported map-based playback. Speed display could be disabled through the camera settings.
  • Optional LTE: A compatible BlackVue LTE connectivity module could provide a dedicated internet connection for supported BlackVue Cloud features.

The LTE module, compatible SIM card, cellular data plan and applicable BlackVue Cloud service were not included with the standard DR970X camera package.

Impact Detection and Parking Surveillance

The DR970X included a built-in accelerometer, commonly called a G-sensor, that detected impacts and sudden changes in speed. Detected incidents could be identified and saved as Event recordings.

When properly powered and configured for Parking Mode, the camera could monitor for impacts and visible movement around the parked vehicle.

BlackVue categorized recordings as Normal, Event or Parking files, allowing users to filter recordings through the BlackVue app or Viewer and find important footage more quickly.

Parking surveillance required an appropriate hardwired power connection or compatible dash-camera battery system.

Discreet and Functional Interface

Touch sensor: The exterior touch sensor could be used to trigger a Manual Event recording.

Memory-card formatting: The dedicated format control allowed the installed MicroSD card to be formatted from the camera.

Protected memory-card access: The power-connector cover helped protect access to the MicroSD card slot during normal operation.

Built-in speaker: Voice prompts communicated startup, shutdown, recording status and detected system or memory-card errors.

BlackVue App and Viewer

The BlackVue app allowed compatible iOS and Android devices to connect to the DR970X for Live View, camera positioning, configuration changes, file browsing and video downloads.

The BlackVue Viewer for compatible Windows and macOS computers allowed recordings to be reviewed and backed up from the camera’s MicroSD card.

The BlackVue Web Viewer also supported management of properly configured, cloud-connected BlackVue cameras through a compatible web browser.

Application, operating-system and cloud-service availability may change over time and is controlled by BlackVue and the applicable service providers.

BlackVue Cloud

When connected to the internet and properly configured, the DR970X supported BlackVue Cloud features designed to keep drivers connected to their vehicles.

Depending on the camera configuration, internet connection and BlackVue service plan, supported features included Remote Live View, impact push notifications, Live Event Upload, remote video playback and download, GPS tracking and two-way voice communication.

Critical recordings could be uploaded to compatible cloud storage, helping preserve footage even if the camera or memory card was damaged or removed during an incident.

Cloud features required an internet connection, BlackVue account and compatible service plan. Certain features, storage allowances and usage limits could vary by plan.

Designed to Protect Important Recordings

Event File Overwrite Protection: The DR970X could protect up to 50 Event recordings from being overwritten during normal loop recording. Users could also allow newer Event files to replace the oldest protected Event recordings.

Adaptive Format-Free File Management: BlackVue’s recording-file system was designed to improve stability and reduce the frequency of required MicroSD card formatting.

Memory-Card Failure Alert: The camera could identify certain MicroSD card problems and provide a voice warning instructing the user to check the card.

Important recordings should always be downloaded and backed up as soon as possible following an accident, parking incident or other significant event.
